UPVA Awards

Tonight was the 2006 UPVA Award Ceremony for our videos we entered last year. Out of ten categories, I won nine 1st place awards and one 2nd place award.

The way these awards were judged was really exciting and also the reason they were a little late in getting awarded. We have spent the last five months producing a website where all of the videos that entered were placed to be judged. Professional videographers from all over the country were invited to judge the videos on seven different criteria by logging on to this website with their assigned password. They were also able to give feedback on each video they viewed. Special thanks to Giant Brothers Media for making this possible!

I think this marks a sign of things to come in the judging process not only for our organization, but others nationwide as well. This means that when you win an award, it is judged by some of the best videographers in the country and raises the credibility of the awards.

Since we now have this system in place, we will be accepting entrees for this year's competition until Nov. 7th and then have our 2007 Awards Banquet on Jan. 2nd!

Danielle and Drew were both there for my awards and it was awesome seeing how our local association is really progressing and getting involved. Thanks 2007 Board - YOU ROCK!!!

YOUR WORK IS WONDERFUL, I wish I could get married in The Salt Lake Temple and to have you filming my wedding because when I see your videos it's like if you were telling me a whole love story, you can see God's presence in these unions, your videos are portraits of ETERNITY, they are perfect. It's such a shame I am in El Salvador, so far away from Utah.

Wow! Thank you for such inspiring feedback! I do film in El Salvador as well. I don't know if you noticed, but a few blog entries down is a wedding in Guatemala.
Thanks again for your thoughts - it gets me even more excited to capture the emotions on the wedding day!
All the best,
David Perry

Congrats David! I still pop in every now and then to see what's happening. I'm such a nerd; I still like watching other wedding videos besides ours (probably because you're the videographer for all of them)! We still watch our video once a week. I still would like to start doing film stuff myself, but I have no time. Hopefully someday... Will you post the winning entries? That would be so fun to see! Congrats again! I am not surprised at all :)

Always good to hear from you! It is fun watching other videos because every wedding is unique and different and every couple has their own special story. That is one of the benefits of shooting weddings... it is always something different every day.
I'll get those winning videos posted for you to check out.
You really should come to our UPVA meetings. We are starting a training program Oct. 3rd at Remember When Videos Studio that goes until August where we will be taking the written test to become Merited Professional Videographers (MVP). It's a national certification by WEVA. Then we will be submitting actual work for the practicum. We will be training on that as well.
We'll talk soon and thanks for stopping by!

David...I must say that I'm not surprised that you won so many awards. Your work is always incredible, moving, and beautiful.

When I was in LA for the conference that I spoke at people were raving about the piece you did for me LAST year!!! And people who had heard about it this year that weren't there last year were dying to see it. It went perfectly with my presentation this year and so I used it again at the last minute. EVERYONE loved it!!! They were all moved and inspired by it.

Thank you! Thank you!!!

I am so happy that your presentation went so well. You know, the reason why Drew is here is because after I filmed your beautiful family, I came home and told Danielle that we absolutely had to have kids ASAP! Thanks for letting us hang out with your family and seeing first hand what your presentation was all about. We love you guys and need to meet up soon so we can hang out and maybe even get some shots of our little munchkin!

So glad to hear from you! Well, actually you should know that your bridal video took 1st Place in the statewide competition! Way to go! I still talk about how wonderful you two are. When everyone sees your reception video on my demo, they can't believe their eyes... helicopter and everything. I let them know that you are so down to earth and were one of my best employees ever!
Your bridal video is really popular over in Europe. I get a lot of emails telling me how much they love it.
We need to get together when you two are up here in Salt Lake. Give us a call.
Love you!!

I love your work! Those awards are shiny and I know you deserve them. I was looking at the UVPA website but I couldn't find out who the president was so I could email them to congratulate them on picking your work. Will you post the information for the President of the UVPA on your site?

Ha ha. I'm the president. However the judging was completed by professional videographers from around the country. Not a single UPVA member was a judge for the contest.
Thanks for the comments.
