My wife Danielle commented that it's wonderful to see a groom that is head over heels for the bride. Easy to see what a great guy Nate is. Maren is uber adorable with her charming smile and her attention to the wedding details is superb. Being the owner of http://www.elizabethandhomer.com/ shined through. Her tag line "Unmistakeably Unique. Unmistakably You." was the spring board for the approach to her wedding film being the only wedding I have ever mixed 8mm film and Digital film (Canon 5D MarkII). In fact, her wedding was the very first wedding I ever shot with the Canon 5D MarkII but I knew it was what we needed to keep it candid and classy. Interesting to contrast the vintage 8mm Film with the cutting edge super clean Digital Film! To make the transition between the two, I cut the natural audio during the 8mm Film sections and I also transcoded the Digital Film to 24p through Cineform's Neo Scene.

One of the highlights of the wedding was the Scottish Hand Clasping ceremony. This is where the phrase "Tying the Knot" originated. And I must say that any wedding with a piper is top notch in my book! (I come from the McNeil and McCullouch clans in Edinburgh). Nate & Maren presented their family with framed genealogical charts which was a very nice touch to show their gratitude and also recognize their great heritage.

Maren's friend custom made the dress, which I absolutely love and the little girls are just cute as Ill get out. They had a little tree where guests could hang their advice or congrats to the newlyweds and the cake by (Sugar Kisses Cakes) matched Maren's shoes and dress by Melissa at melissablackburn.net Audrey from Studio Stems did an amazing job with the flowers!!. Loved the details at this wedding!

We were fortunate to have my friend Duston Todd from www.dustontodd.com who shot entirely on film - and made a few cameos. He was cracking us up all day with his jokes and singing. Fun times, fun times.

Putting aside all the talk of cameras and frame rates, the best wedding films aren't about the equipment but better measured on the hug-o-meter. If it makes you want to hug someone after watching it then it's a success. All I have to say is be prepared to hug someone after watching this fun little clip.

Read about what Maren had to say on her blog and I hope you enjoy the film!

Swensen Photography Demo

Swensen Photography presented at IPPA this week and this demo introduced their presentation. One option we have is to include some crane shots with the video so thanks to Chris McClain from www.cmcclainproductions.com who was working the crane during this shoot. Of course we had ideal lighting shooting prior to the wedding day and it was a fun, relaxing shoot as we took our time getting some really great shots.

Toby & Jenny's wedding was this morning and it felt like a big reunion as there were three previous brides in the wedding party. What a great day - the people, the weather, just everything. Can you believe I get paid to do this?! Perfect weather today. One of the best parts of a wedding film is the candid moments when you don't realize you are being filmed. I love the shots of the grandmas laughing, the crowd taking shots of the couple, the friend dancing and of course Amanda & Drew totally in love just soaking up the moment. Those candid shots are the hardest of all the shots to get and the reason why you hire a professional. They know what to look for and can anticipate when it's going to happen. Of course we have poised shots as well, but those candids are what make the video emotional.

Shout out to Justin from www.SwensenPhotography.com for always being a team player with our weddings.

Swensen Photography Shoot

Shot with Swensen Photography at the Bonneville Salt Flats and then stopped by the Great Salt Lake.

Michael Lucarelli at the Cathedral of the Madeleine

Michael Lucarelli is the most talented guitarist that I know and in a setting like the Cathedral of the Madeleine his music is truly amazing.

Scott + Becky Preshoot

Scott & Becky came up from Las Vegas for a preshoot since I'm not available on their wedding day.
Last month in Orlando I competed in an international "Battle of the Videographers" involving individuals from around the globe. We were all given the same footage provided by the talented Chris McClain of www.cmcclainproductions.com and then it was up to each individual or company to craft an edited piece that was judged by filmmakers attending the WEVA conference. All the videos that were submitted were absolutely stunning but I was fortunate enough to take home the trophy.

Event DV Magazine had this to say:

"The second memorable session was the Battle of the Editors, in which David Perry of David Perry Films made stunning use of submitted footage shot outside at the Salt Lake City LDS temple wedding to fashion a seamless and moving clip that richly deserved the award."

I'll be posting a link to a website that shows all the videos that were submitted as soon as it is up.
